JB.

Thanks for the suggestion re photos.  We are meeting in the next few weeks to suggest changes and I will suggest that.  I am always interested in getting new photos, please forward them to neil.mitchell@sustrans.org.uk if you do not mind the being used I would be happy to credit the photographer.

Neil.

Grip shifts tend to be reasonably reliable.  It is worth trying to adjust the cable tension to start with (do not adjust the little screws)(see gears section within maintenance).  The screws actually adjust how far the rear mech can move so if it has worked in the past and you have not adjusted them, or banged the rear mech they should be ok.

Simply tighten/loosen the barrel adjuster until it shifts correctly.  If this does not work it may be worth a trip to a decent bike mechanic.

You could change from gripshifts to rapidfire gear shifters but I would have a go with what you have to avoid any further costs.

I must admit I find gear adjustment a real pain!

Hope this helps.

Hey hey...finally made it!!!

So how's everyone, do believe the Thursday night rides will be starting again soon..? can't wait! not much to report since I last seen you all...little fella getting bigger...did York - Stockton for a charity bike ride and I'm doing the W2W the end of next month with some of the lads from work...should be a laugh! Didn't do much over the winter (whoops...!) but now that spring/summer had finally arrived I'm back in the swing of things and knocking up the mileage with the ferocity of a man possessed....still BIG though!! lol nevermind I'm hoping and trying to change that....

Well see you guys soon

i'm wanting some offroad tyres that would be smooth for road sections, kind of half road tyres and half mountain tyres. any suggestions?

I have a 1995 Specialized and i need a full length seat post. anyone have one kicking around? I'm also after the tyres I mentioned before, for more commuting, I'm feeling fat and unfit (although I'm not, see my muscles!) and want to ride more into work.

I purchased some Panracer Crosstown from GLG cycles on Lanehouse road, Thornaby about £17.00 each excelent for mixed use and run at high pressure.

I'm guessing this is the hello section, so Hello everyone. Have the guided rides started up yet? Is there a brochure available? I can't wait for the weather to break, I need to start getting out on my bike more.

Well Hopefully we'll catch up on a ride sometime, I'll be the one keeping the rear warm lol.

Dave.

The guided rides have started, they actually started in March!  There are two ways to find out where and when for the guided rides.

  • Keep an eye on the home page for upcoming events
  • If you would like to send me your postal address I will send you a leaflet, my email address is neil.mitchell@sustrans.org.uk

I have actually over-riden the evnts listing on the home page at the moment as I am advertising Teescycle (cycle festival at Preston Park on the 7th June).  There are two guided rides happening this Sunday 17th May.

  • Woodlands and wetlands ride starting from Middlesbrough Cycle Centre at 10:00am
  • Mouth of the Tees ride starting from the Transporter Bridge at 10:30am (if you do want to go on this ride please call 07917 653040 to book a place

By the way welcome to the forum!

Hi

I'm a late joiner but thanks for the welcome.   I applaud all atttempts to increase cycling in our communities and most especially to keep cyclists safe.

I will add a few posts to other threads in the coming days, but I agree about the desirability of posting photos along with the text - for a variety of reasons from sharing the joys to furthering the cause!

I particularly found the info on the law and practice surrounding 'pavement' and footpath cycling.

Many thanks,

retep
